AIMThe aim of starting a street-soccer team in Kelowna is to provide marginalised citizens of Kelowna an opportunity to participate in a weekly training session with a chance to participate in the national street soccer championship. The players who perform well at the national championship, not only skilfully, but also in terms of team spirit and hard-work, will get the opportunity to represent Canada in the annual Homeless world cup. The beauty of the Homeless world cup is that no single player can represent their country more than once, meaning that many people will get the chance to play overseas for their country if they persevere. PURPOSEThe purpose of starting a street soccer team is to give a chance to those who don’t get as many chances as most, to be actively involved in a team environment and provide an outlet from their daily routine. Street soccer teams in other cities and countries have had amazing effects on the lives of those involved, including changing their living conditions, changing employment status, and moving away from drug and alcohol addictions. It is not expected that this team will change everyone’s life, but it is expected that there will be at least some benefit seen, and we hope to instil a sense of belonging, a sense of responsibility to their team mates, and a sense of purpose As a part of Street Soccer Canada’s guiding principles: |
